Future Plans

Key Result Area: Organisational Capacity Building

Project management and development target: Developing skills and expertise in:

  • Project and asset management, including management of large public-private joint ventures
  • Feasibility analysis for property development
  • Identifying private sector incentives for involvement in affordable housing projects
  • Marketing and public relations for not-for-profit organisations.

Key Result Area: Housing Construction

A major aspect of VWHA's activities is securing resources and project partners to develop and construct new rental housing for our target market. Housing projects will be developed in both metropolitan and country Victoria with stock including flats, units, apartments and stand alone houses.

Key Result Area: Investment Property Management

A key objective for the rental organisation is to secure housing stock that can be managed on behalf of ethical investors. Housing will be managed in both metropolitan and country Victoria with stock including flats, units, apartments and stand alone houses.

Key Result Area: Research and Innovation

VWHA is planning to expand the ways in which we can collaborate with individuals and organisations in the private sector to create innovative and affordable housing options for women that also provide a social or ethical return to investors/developers.

Using our status as a public benevolent institution our current thinking includes:

  • Working for the provision of tax deductibility offsets to housing and building organisations donating services and materials to the building of affordable accommodation for women.
  • Providing practical incentives to builders/developers to encourage them to include social housing as part of their normal business planning
  • Establishment of a social housing development fund.

Performance Indicators

The indicators of VWHA's success will be:

  • Procurement of seed funding for VWHA (this has been achieved)
  • Establishment of a Housing Development Fund attracting institutional/private investments
  • Expansion of networks to enable formation of multiple partnerships with community and private sector organisations for brokering residential and commercial projects to build affordable housing stock.
