Social Housing

Social Housing is provided in Victoria through two major avenues which are:

Public Housing and Community Housing.

Public Housing

Community Housing

This housing is predominantly affordable rental housing. It is provided in a variety of forms, including 2,3 or 4 bedroom family homes, bedsits, one or two bedroom apartments, rooming houses, and self contained units. This housing is provided through not for profit community housing organisations and associations. There are a variety of these organizations, some who have a particular focus such as disability, singles, youth, older people, and women. Others have a generalist focus. The type of housing provided by the community based organisations will often depend on the target group they are catering for. There are a variety of ways that the organizations choose to operate in the provision of affordable housing and this will often depend on the level of service provided to the tenants.
